Nearly four months after a fire destroyed a longstanding Stokesdale church, an arrest was made.
On April 12, Harley Kendall Fulp, 18, of 131 Lemontree Trail in Stokesdale, was arrested for the felonious burning of a church or other religious building in connection to the fire at Gideon Grove United Methodist Church on Dec. 22, 2012.
Fulp has not been charged with fires that occurred at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Stokesdale, Bethel United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge or Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerfield.
"My thanks go out to all of my team at the Fire Marshal's Office, Sheriff Sam Page and Sheriff's Detective Lori Pegram, the ATF, the NC SBI and everyone else who helped in the investigation of this arson," said Rockingham County Fire Marshal Robert Cardwell. "There are still two Rockingham County church arsons under investigation at this time, and we are asking anyone with information about these fires to come forward."
Anyone with information about other church fires is asked to call the Rockingham County Fire Marshal's Office at 634-3014, the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office at 634-3232 or Rockingham County Crimestoppers at 349-9683.
