Residents of northwest Guilford County woke up to a snowy morning on Jan. 18.

The area received its first snow of 2013 during the evening hours of Jan. 17. The county received at least three inches of snow according to the National Weather Service. The snow prompted the closure of Guilford County Schools. Many other businesses were closed or delayed.

A number of Guilford County residents were affected by the snowfall. At one point, Duke Energy reported more than 2,000 power outages in the county. Oak Ridge Commons Shopping Center was among those affected, as power was lost at around 10 p.m. on Jan. 16 and wasn't restored until after noon on Friday.
